On Tuesday October 14 they got a call from a family that he was looking into their window, when they went to the door to let him in he ran.....they call Beth (his owners now) and Beth called us right away and we went in the dark raining cold night to look for Cody. We knew we was so close to getting him back that we was not going to stop looking until we found Cody! We were so close to finding him, but not before he was hit by a car. He's alive, but at this time, he has no use of his hind legs. Thank God that we know he's alive, warm and in a Vet's care.

           Updated 1-27-09

1/10/2009  Cody has been making great progress. He has been taking longer and longer walks and can romp around the back yard and even chases after squirrels. He is’t quite fast enough to catch one yet! He goes up and down stairs but down is a lot easier for him than up. We are very happy with the progress that he’s made. His fur is coming in but he still has a bare spot on the top of his back.

In December we decided to bring home his girlfriend, Sara, that was born and raised with the Eddleman’s and grew up with Cody. Sara kept Cody company when he was staying with Tammy and Dennis during his healing process. She watched everything that everyone did with Cody with much concern and during our visits Dave and I got to know her a little. I used to sneak her a treat now and then!  When Tammy told us that she was thinking of putting her up for adoption we asked if we could try her at our home. Cody and Sara were happy to see each other but there was a little jealousy too! It was like a couple of three year old kids fighting over toys! Who could get the most attention! Seeing them play in the back yard together though was just so cute that we knew it was going to work.

It has been a couple of weeks and Cody and Sarah have become great buddies and Dave and I have become very attached to Sara. She has a new home!

As the doctor warned us with more activity Cody may have problems with the plate the he put into his one hip. He feared that it may rub against the bone of the leg and make it sore. Cody has been showing signs that his left hip is sore. There are times when he won't allow us to pet that hip without nipping at our hands.

I talked with his vet at Mid West Vetinary Clinic and he is setting up a time to get Cody back into surgery and remove the plate. We know that this is the best thing for Cody but hate to have him go through the surgery, having his fur shaved again, and setting him back from his his current progress. The plate is no longer needed as the bone is healed so with it rubbing on his leg it should come out.

1/22/2009  I dropped Cody off this morning to have the plate removed. I wanted to cry the whole way there but I knew that it was the best thing for him.

At 11:45AM Doctor Thoesen called to let me know that Cody was out of surgery and was fine. We'd be able to take him home the next day.

Poor Sarah wasn't quite herself with out Cody there at home to keep her company.

1/23/2009 WOW! What a surprise I got when they walked Cody out to me today. He wagged his take and hardly had a limp at all. I was so happy to see him and he was pretty happy to go home!

1/25/2009 Tammy and Dennis and family stopped in to visit Cody and Sara today. They were sure surprised when Cody came running down the stairs to greet them. He had lots of kisses for everyone! He is pretty much back to normal already and Dave and I both think he moves his left leg better now then before the surgery. Cody and Sara put on a show for us in the back yard playing tug of war and chasing each other back and forth stealing a small branch from each other. Now all Cody needs is to get his fur back. He is pretty funny looking. His fur is three different lengths!

I cant say enough about the Eddlemans and how they raise their Shelties. After loosing our 11 year old Sheltie we were looking for a very special dog to fill the void in our hearts and our home. We had been looking for about two months but were looking for an adult dog and not a puppy and it was the ad for the puppies that brought us to Cody and the Eddleman family. Tammy knew by the questions she asked us exactly what kind of dog would fit us and suggested that I check out her 14 month old male, Cody, on her website. She then offered to bring him to our home for a visit. After seeing him on line we were hooked and after meeting Cody we were already in love with our special little boy.

After bringing Cody home we realized just how the Eddlemans bring up their dogs. They are used to all household noises and we had very little problems getting Cody used to our daily routine. Tammy raises her dogs with a lot of love and discipline which leads to very well behaved dogs.

Two months later Cody got away from us when we went to visit Grandma. I called Tammy to let her know that he was gone only to let her know that she may get a phone call as Cody still had his Eddleman ID tag on him. We didn'tt expect to get the help that we did. The whole family came out to find Cody and bring him home. We spent four long days searching 28 acres of wooded land. If you are a frequent visitor of Tammys site you know the rest of the story. Cody got hit by a car.

The Eddleman family and Dave and I went through Codys doctors visits together. I cant believe that any dog has ever had the support the Cody had through his whole adventure. The Eddlemans raise dogs but when they leave their home they dont leave their hearts. Without them I dont know what we would have done. They were willing to help us get Cody back on his feet by taking him back into their home when ours wouldn'tt work because of the many steps that we have and because of our working hours.

Again, I cant say enough!  If you are looking for a Sheltie dont look any further!  The Eddlemans can provide you with a healthy, happy, and well adjusted one. Dave and I are talking about getting Cody a buddy when he is all the way back to health and we know where well go to get one!
